Never mind the noisy TV….. “Shoutdowns” supposed to be intellectual debates…… the newspapers full of depressing stories….. lousy magazine Articles….. it’s all part of the Critical, Argumentative Indian mindset. But the last two decades have seen huge progress in the Country. Imagine 99.8% of India’s 1200 mn Population is now with a Biometric/Iris supported Aadhar identification. Supreme Court judgement has ensured only fair use of Aadhar and no infringement of Privacy. Roll out of GST makes India a “Single Market”. This combined with the Formalisation of the Economy, thanks to Demonetisation, India is on a Growth trajectory. No matter what the Political dispensation is/will be, we ranked 77 in the Ease of doing Business. Still a long way to go.
There are so many outstanding personalities with innovative ideas for the ordinary citizens. Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus elaborated the 3 Zeroes theory….. 0-Unemployment, 0-Poverty and 0-Net Carbon Emission. Many Social Enterprises and fantastic NGOs in the country are working towards this goal. It’s the human spirit, the willingness to do for others, self sacrifice for fellow citizens…… best illustrated by Fisherman Jaisal during Kerala floods. He lay in water to enable ladies step on his back to climb into the rescue boat.
As a Nation we are so huge and complex – 1.2 billion people, 23 plus languages, 100 + dialects, largest Hindu nation, second largest Muslim Country, Christians of all hues, Sikhs, Jains, Jews, Parsis, Buddhists etc. etc., all spectrum of economic divide, Super Rich, large growing middle class, fastest growing Millionaires in Asia and alas we still have 100 million fellow Indians below Poverty. Let us all resolve in the New Year to fight the three Cs.
