Across our guest house in Hauz Khas is a 700 years old National Archaeological site – CHOR MINAR. The peculiarity of this 3 storeyed solid stone structure is the numerous Round Holes on its surface. CHORS (thieves) if convicted were taken atop, beheaded and the heads put in the circular holes to deter other thieves.
I wish we had a modern day Chor Minar for all those CHORS who rob our tax payers money from the banks and flee abroad.
The just released Income Tax statistics show how only 1{aff5a224634bf574f692c8c7d068a0713fecca4ea38a30d3005107227dbb12e7} of our population pays taxes. Only 18,358 individuals have declared income of over 1 crore, whereas the same year 33,000 super luxury Mercedes, BMW etc. were bought.
99.9 {aff5a224634bf574f692c8c7d068a0713fecca4ea38a30d3005107227dbb12e7} of our shopkeepers declare losses in the company of some Doctors, Architects, Lawyers, CAs. Of course the honest amongst them also suffer like us.
Can we not bring reforms? Can we not punish the tax evaders and black money generators, the CHOR-MINAR way???? I don’t know….
