And for a Friday when a former Home Minister is issued a L.O.C. the absolute pits of Corruption, some thoughts..… some musings.….
How deep rooted the unholy nexus of “politician – underworld – Police” has evolved into. Karnataka CM addressed senior IPS Police officers warning them against operating thru Touts. “Don’t you feel ashamed to engage brokers” asked the CM and in neighbouring Maharashtra, the former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was issued a L.O.C ( Look Out Circular). With the disgraced Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and his trusted Encounter specialist Sachin Vaze, all embroiled in money laundering and extortion cases, the dirty linen of the “criminal – justice system” is getting washed in Public. Corruption and Misgovernance is so all pervasive that citizens have been numbed into acceptance as cost of being a democracy.
Notwithstanding some of these reprehensible characters, India has some outstanding Bureaucrats, few honest Politicians, Upright Police officers and hugely civic minded citizens who instill hope and provide promise for better days. ADR – Association for Democratic Rights established by a group of IIM-A professors with an objective to improve Governance and strengthen democracy by continuously working in areas of electoral and political reforms, has done yeomen service in information transparency of political candidates – criminal cases, financial records, educational qualifications etc. etc. Another successful organisation in Mumbai, AGNI (Action for Good Governance and Networking in India). Such institutions must be strengthened and replicated across the country. Concerned citizens must be alert and get involved with their immediate neighbours and Community at large, in mutually caring, respectful and inclusive ways and not leave it all to the politicians.
On this the Ganesh Chaturthi Friday, May Lord Ganesha help us in removing all obstacles, the truthful way, the integral way, the SEEGOS way.
