And for a Budget Friday in Mumbai, some thoughts….. some musings……
In the seventies and eighties, in the Hey days of Socialism, “Garibi Hatao”, “Roti, Kapada aur Makaan”, I remember Nani Palkhiwala with his interpretation of Policies and taxes…. Income Tax was 75 to 90{aff5a224634bf574f692c8c7d068a0713fecca4ea38a30d3005107227dbb12e7} plus CDS – Compulsory Deposit Scheme. Nani explained the terms in common Language and how to survive amidst loud applauses of the Thousands in Brabourne Stafium Churchgate.
Wonder in today’s Market driven Global Economies with T+1, Trading in demated Shares, with WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter, who cares for the allocations, cuts and additions. The Professionals are busy minding their jobs, the Farmers know that all is rhetorical and the poor anyway don’t care. So at best, this is a Country Balance sheet and necessary Financial Exercise.
Contemporary Wisdom opined that Competencies and Skill sets of National Heads – Presidents or Prime Ministers had to be very superior and time tested in Political Arenas as compared to CEOs of large MNCs. President Trump has turned all that upside down.
Today’s CEOs of large Corporations have enormous Financial and Social clout. I had a simple principle running a large MNC for two decades. All Decisions must be good for the Company and ALSO my Country. If in conflict, Indian interests prevailed whether the Global HQRs liked it or not. Ofcourse there are ramifications….. there will be….. has to be.
Budget day or any day, let each one of us particularly those in Power and those with Financial discretion…… let’s all build a Globally Competitive India….. the transparent way….. the Ethical way….. the SEEGOS way.
