National Vigilance Awareness Week: Join The SEEGOS Momentum

And for a Friday of the National Vigilance Awareness week, with heavy heart, I mourn the loss of my Friend, fellow Trustee of PCGT and a SEEGOS Volunteer.

Mr. S S Puri, IPS (Retd.) was an outstanding human being. A Police officer of the highest integrity and unbelievable legal acumen, he swore by Constitutional Morality and had an unabiding faith in the process and rule of law. Almost singlehandedly he had drafted the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, which even today has stood the test of time. He was passionate about collecting hard evidence and had an impeccable record. As Head of SIT, in spite of all political pressures, he unearthed one of India’s biggest Scams – the 32,000 crore Telgi Stamp scam. A Role Model Police Officer, he never ever sought any political patronage throughout his illustrious career. Even post retirement, he was most active in promoting all Anti corruption measures. Mr. Puri, my friend, my salutations to you. May your Soul RIP.

This week is observed across the country as Vigilance Awareness Week. All public sector and Govt Departments are encouraging staff and society to take the Integrity pledge. The Theme is VIGILANT INDIA – PROSPEROUS INDIA. Corruption, every one of us agree, is the root cause of India being still mired in Poverty. We all have many anecdotes of corrupt practices, but who will act. Those Corrupt in Power will not. The rich unscrupulous business man and Industrialist will not. The Goonda politician will not. They are all the beneficiaries. So the Honest Citizens must stand up and be counted. Use Social Media, Encourage Technology and use the SEEGOS momentum platform.

I recall the Supreme Court of India missive to every Indian Citizen in the famous Jayalalitha corruption case. Quote “let us all partake in sacrosanct mission to free the Civil order from the suffocative throttle of this deadly affliction – CORRUPTION”, the legal way, the Ethical way, the SEEGOS way.
