And for a Friday of an exciting, enjoyable holiday week in Morocco, some thoughts….. some musings…..

The modern city of Tangier links Morocco to India. In the 16th century, Portuguese King had bequeathed the Towns of Mumbai and Tangier as Dowry to the King of England at his daughter’s wedding.

Morocco is a Kingdom and Mohammad VI is the current King with absolute Powers as the Commander of Armed Forces and Monarch. He appoints the Prime Minister. Whilst there are two houses of Parliaments of elected and nominated members, the country is one of the strategic Middle-Income Developing Countries of North Africa with a population of about 45 mn rather liberal and European oriented Sunni Muslims. Morocco has had a long history of friendship and close cooperation with India. History records that the cities of Tangier and Mumbai were bequeathed by the Portuguese King to the British Crown as dowry for his daughter’s wedding. Today most Moroccans are familiar of Indian Bollywood movies and songs. Amitabh Bachan, Shah Rukh Khan and the Kapoor brothers are the most favourite.

India’s rising economic status and changed recognition is very apparent. Morocco aspires to join the BRICS and is a gateway to the markets in Africa and Europe. An interesting observation in most high end shops is that they recognise two categories of Indians; those originating in India and those coming from US and other developed countries. The latter are the spenders and former the window shoppers.

Post Covid, all over the world there is a huge surge of Indian tourists. May each one of us be the Brand Ambadssador to project the changing image of India the mutually respectful way, the inclusive way, the SEEGOS way.
