And for a Friday in Mumbai, some thoughts….. some musings…..

Coconut Vendor Hamsa…. our association more than four decades….. handing over his business to Mechanical Engineer Son…..

Narielpaani wala is an iconic business to Mumbai, mostly run by Malabaris from North Kerala who migrated to Mumbai long years ago. Shops could be run by just one person or a full service centre with all other fruit juices etc. Coconut is a fruit and not a nut!! Tender Coconut water is a miracle drink. It is slightly sweet with a subtle nutty flavour with very low calories and carbs. It has natural louric acid which helps in boosting body immune system and facilitates weight loss. Drink any time you like. But for best results, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. It has vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants which protects body cells from damages caused by free radicals.

My friend Hamsa on Warden Road – our association more than 40 years – inherited his shop from his father as a handsome young man in his twenties. Business is tough. In March 2019, BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) enforced the 2016 Environment law of Waste creator at source responsible to dispose. Technology exists to convert shell debris into Fertilsers and fuel. A unit is now running in Reay Road. We need continuous research on relevant cost effective technology to convert organic waste into value added products. Also a good platform to coordinate and connect, Waste generator, Waste technology manager and converter and potential users for value added products. Else micro and small entrepreneurs cannot survive. Honestly, only Environmental law enforcers become rich.

My friend Hamsa is handing over his business to his Mechanical Engineer Son. His advise to son – make profits but do not look for short cuts for Profiteering, follow rules and never cheat your customers. Wow, that was the perfect lesson in Sustainability, Economy, Ecology and Environment in harmony.

Let us all support small and micro businesses to develop the Profitable way, the Ethical way, the SEEGOS way.
