And for a Friday, the sad realisation that Anna Hazare’s more than 8 days fast in Ralegaon Siddhi, fighting Corruption and farmers woes, was hardly reported or cared about….. some thoughts……

I do not understand Politics. Being a Professional with capabilities only in managing Assets and Capital on trusteeship basis, I feel aggrieved and hurt at the Enormous damage to Constitutional Institutions that uphold Democracy. In 2013 the entire Nation was backing Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption which led to passing Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta Act. Sadly nothing has progressed.
Politicalisation of the Law enforcement and anti corruption Machinery has been the bane of our country. As per our Constitution, Police is an exclusive state subject. But most states still follow the Indian Police Act of 1861 with a few modifications. Excellent recommendations exist from all the Police Reforms committees – Gore Committee in Police training, Ribeiro committee on Police Reforms, Padmanabhaiah committee etc. etc. Even the Supreme Court binding directives issued in 2006 to reform the Police which included a fixed term of minimum two years for DGP and other senior Police officers, selection based on Merit etc. etc. have not been implemented by almost 80% of states.
The tendency of most Politicians to get Police officers of their choice posted based on their “flexibility” must be clipped. Its time the Honest Tax paying citizens use every forum and technological innovations to support Police Reforms, encourage and motivate our honest and hard working law enforcement agencies the Ethical way, the legal way, the SEEGOS way.
