And for a Friday returning from Chennai, after two memorable events – one mega Global from afar and the other personal, up close….. some thoughts….. some musings…..
Chennai is hosting the 44th International Chess Olympiad with more than 2200 participants from over 340 teams representing 187 countries. The most amazing aspect is the showcasing of India’s ability to organise such a huge Mega Global event in a span of just four months. The Olympiad was scheduled to be held in Russia in August 2022, but the Ukraine war derailed the event. With some deft International diplomacy, fantastic coordination between the Tamilnadu Govt and the GOI ably supported by International Chess Federation with active involvement of India’s Chess GrandMaster Viswanathan Anand. Millions of Chess lovers will be able to see the intellectual bench strength of India in Chess. From just one Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand we now have 75 Indian Grandmasters. Let’s all enjoy the tournaments and wish the Indian teams all success.
The personal event was the 95th Birthday under full Covid protocol of one of my very favourite Corporate Ikons, KC Mohan, the former CMD of MECON. Son of the legendary Barrister M.K Nambyar, one of India’s towering giants of Constitutional law, Mohanuncle has spanned a corporate career epitomised by the highest Professional and Ethical standards. The pioneer in Engineering Design leading to construction of India’s huge steel plants, post his active corporate life , he has immersed in giving back to society in full zest and total commitment, particularly in the area of Management Education and supporting the poor and marginalised who are mentally challenged, with the NGO – The Banyan. He supported setting up the Xaviers Management Institutes and has been on the Governing council of IIM Kozhikode. He is a well wisher and ardent supporter of SEEGOS, fully aware of its activities to promote Good Governance and fighting corruption. We all pray for his continued good health to celebrate his 100th birthday in 5 years.
