Having lived more than 55 years in Mumbai …… & particularly South Mumbai …. I vouch….. a Mumbaikar will always remain a Mumbaikar … no matter which part of the World He/She is constrained to settle down …..with the Coastal Road …. the underground Metro trains of Aqua Line connecting Cuffe parade all the way to Andheri via every major South Mumbai spot …….the brand new Worli Promenade which stretches almost 6 kms from Worli to Amarsons Garden skirting Warden Road ……not to forget .. the olden goldie … iconic Marine Drive & the evergreen Hanging Garden in Malabar Hill …. my favourite morning walk venue ……if NCPA was the place to go for Plays , Dramas , Cultural events … the NMACC in BKC now is absolutely Top class with spectacular Sound , lighting , acoustics & overall World class grandeur …..
Every Mumbaikar laments the overall falling standards in relation to the past ….. but make no mistake ….compared to every other city in the World …South Mumbai has now improved leaps & bounds …..& is one of the best liveable places for Indians ….. its cosmopolitan residents are still very helpful , pleasant & none of the “ Pomp & Show “ of the the Nouveau Rich of some Northern cities or newly expanding suburban centres in India …..as India’s GDP rises the Nation will move up the Economic ladders … but as citizens we need to be more mindful & raise our civic senses … our concern for the environment …. respect for the next person on the street …the basics in traffic manners …… our children have to be taught in schools … & shown the way Japan lives ……as a Society we must aim to be like the Japenese …..a tall order … but attainable …..in two generations….
Let South Mumbai pave the way for rest of Mumbai & other cities in India …… for improved ease of living…. the equitable way …. the sustainable way …. the SEEGOS way.
