And for a Friday ….. having enjoyed a real Spy thriller – Dhurandhar……… some thoughts …. some musings ……:
I am not a movie buff …. Rarely I see films …. this time a Shoba De Reel forwarded to me brought into focus “ Dhurandhar” ….. a gripping fast moving Intense movie ….. with slick editing ……kept me on the seat edge ….. for an unbelievable length of 3.1/2 hours …….this film nicely blends fictional espionage with real world actual events craftily meshed with complex characters played with equal aplomb by every actor …… if Akshaye Khanna fitted into the villain at perfection … Ranveer as Dhurandhar was sublime …. & the cameo roles by each of the others were all A+ …… the film setting purportedly is in Karachi Pakistan …. but the actual film shooting is in the vibrant streets of Bangkok & some of the historical locales in Amritsar ………
Though the movie is reportedly banned in Pakistan & some Middle East countries due its political Indo -Pak overtures ….. it’s a runaway hugely successful movie …. having already grossed Rs 500 crores within the first fortnight in India ……. what made the film very interesting , intriguing & absorbing to me was the actual events which the Director very cleverly interjects , were major calamities we had all really lived with & tortourosly endured …… the 1999 Indian Airlines plane Kandahar hijack …… the 2001 Indian Parliament terrorist attack ….. & the 2008 Mumbai serial Kasab attack at the Taj /Oberoi /VT & other iconic Mumbai locations ……..another major scandal of those times was the Fake Indian Currency Racket involving the UK company which was contracted to supply security threads & paper for Indian 500 & 1000 Re notes …… the movie blends these into the story line of the fictional saga ……
Notwithstanding the gruesome violence …….. Dhurandhar is an entertainer with feet tapping music & lively background vintage songs …let’s just enjoy ..…. the entertainer way …. the nostalgic way …. the SEEGOS way.
