And for a Friday ….. history is made ….when Indian women dominated Media …. Grabbed Headlines …. some thoughts ….some musings …….

The World Cup Woman’s Cricket Final….. the moment Indian Captain Harmanpreet magically got her hands to a flyer & the last South African batter was out …. History was made …. Ian Bishop the Cricket Commentator in his inimitable style shouted over the din of the Roar of 40,000 spectators ……. Ian said “This is a Victory that will ignite the Nation and will create a legacy for generations of young women to follow” ……….ignite the Nation. the World Cup did …..& in style …… cricket is India’s religion which unites the country together ….. its been Men’s cricket with Ikons like Sunil Gavaskar , Sachin Tendulkar , Virat Kohli , Rohit Sharma …… but excepting the die hard cricket lovers …..few thought the Women will bring glory …….this World Cup winning Champions reflect the unique cultural & geographical diversity of India …… not only that most are from little known Moffusil towns they also have braved against all odds to reach this destination ……Captain Harmanpreet from Moga in Punjab, Vice Captain Smriti from Sangli in Maharastra , Spinner Charani from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh , Wicket keeper Richa from Siliguri – West Bengal , Jemimah from Bandra Mumbai , Uma from Golaghat in Assam ……..etcetc …..each one of them fought Poverty … gender bias …. Ridicule….. social media tolling ….some could not speak English ….. but they united as a Team …. worked hard in the field & across continents to finally bring the World Cup to India for the first time …… Join me in saluting this courageous victorious Indian Woman’s Cricket team ……..
India is a fiercely Patriarchal Society …. Men dominate & command the house ….. in most of North India …..Birth of the Boy child is celebrated & the Girl child seen as “ Paraya Dhan” ….. in the most conservative families …. after marriage the bride has no entry back to her parents …. Whilst lots are changing …. Particularly in cities & most of South India ….. in some communities like in Nairs of Kerala & the Bunds of Karnataka …..traditionally the woman enjoyed equal opportunities due to the Matrilineal societies ….. lots have changed in India but …. Still much more needs to change …. Parents must learn to respect & savour the Girl child as much as the boy …. Provide equal learning& social status … respect women & lessen gender bias ….. this World Cup victory may be “ Hockey -stick “ moment ….. let’s resolve to celebrate the victory as Women liberation day in India …..
India as the fourth largest Economy needs its 50 % of the population …. The women power to fire on all cylinders to make us the third largest …. Let’s resolve the United way ….. the Gender equal way …. the SEEGOS way.
