And for a Friday after attending a very interesting Chemical Conference, some thoughts….. some musings…..
The Post Graduate & Research Centre of the autonomous St. Joseph University …….next door neighbour at my Bangalore residence ……I enjoyed participating in the two day Conference on “ Chemical Sciences for a Sustainable tomorrow: Synergy & Solutions……being a Chemistry man …… it was enjoyable to be amongst scientists & chemistry stalwarts from across the country covering exotic topics such as ….. revolutionary energy storage solutions, Nanotechnology , Computational chemistry , Chemical biology for health & sustainability, Environmental Stewardship …etc etc……every presenter was a fountain house of knowledge & I relived my Chemistry days …..the many initiatives for R&D & IPR in India during my leadership at the German MNC …….
Over the last decade tremendous improvements have been made & India now has a robust Eco system with more integrated & IT enabled Patent offices in Delhi ,Mumbai ,Chennai & Kolkata. The overall facilities in the IPR framework of Patents , Design , Trademarks & Geographical indications have vastly improved …… but still there is huge scope for further improvements ….IPR awareness amongst the General Public & Corporates have to be substantially enhanced ……we need to find novel ways to make Innovation … … R&D attractive for our brightest minds so that they stay back in India & contribute to solving Indian problems with new & innovative products & processes …… we need to incentivise our researchers with more monetary rewards …. somewhat of a parallel system to Stock options in Corporates ….. fresh thinking is urgently called for …..
Research in Chemistry hand in hand with applications in Agricultural productivity & Agri waste management at every Village & District level thru FPOs is the sure solution to solve our Employment & wealth distribution needs ….. let us all support this initiative … the involved way …. the innovative way …the SEEGOS way.
