And for a Friday, as my heart goes out to all the flood affected and suffering in Kerala….. some thoughts…..

Its absolute Pralayam as half of Kerala is under Water. Flooding like this never before in living memory. Heavy Rains started August 8 and continues to lash Ernakulam, Aluva, Kozhikode…… Pathanamthitta is worst affected. Unfortunately, forecast is for More Rains till Saturday. Cochin Airport is closed, Train services stopped from Trivandrum and National Highways are also flooded in parts. “Red-Alert”, highest warning, sounded across the state. Let us all just pray for God’s Own Country, to get back to its feet ASAP.

It is heart warming to see and hear of how communities are coming together to help each other. Most Social Clubs, Rotary, Lion, Round Table etc. etc. have all set up Communication and help centres. More than 75 units from Army, Navy, AirForce, Coast Guard, NDRF are engaged in Rescue Operations. ODRAF (Odisha RapidForce) specialising in Flood Rescue has also arrived. Natures fury….. we mortals are all insignificant….. we can only pray and help each other.

This may not be the opportune time to analyse why flooding at such levels in a Coastal state so endowed with Nature’s Bounty – Mountains, Forests, Western Ghat, Rivers, back waters and a long coast line. But we need to reflect on dangers of Corruption and Man made opportunism, Reserved Paddy areas converted, Forest land grabbed, Sand Mining of Rivers unabated and illegal Constructions abound.

Let us all pray and hope that with each disaster, we learn our lessons. Let us all support our less fortunate in whichever way we can by rehabilitation post floods, medical volunteering, financial contribution etc. Let us build a Resilient India, the Ethical way, the humane way, the SEEGOS way.
